A Last and a Great Day
As Thursday was going to be a busy day, I packed several bags with everything I would need for the day’s adventures. I barely had time to heat up a microwave meal and prepare a cup of coffee in my travel mug before double church services, because I’d somehow slept through my alarm.
First, I had choir practice. The song was basically ready, so it was more of a sound check. Then, I practiced my piano solo that I would be playing during the offering collection. Satisfied that it was ready, I finally ate my much-belated breakfast, which had cooled down considerably, but was still delicious. It’s fairly unusual, I imagine, to have chicken parmi for breakfast, but it was the only time that day convenient enough to eat it.
The first service went smoothly, and featured two very encouraging messages. Several of the young adults walked over to a picnic shelter to eat lunch, and I used this opportunity to eat and share the remainder of the food items I had left.
The second service was supposedly going to be shorter, given there was only one message, but the speaker had plenty of material to fill the time, so we were pretty hungry by the time the service was over. I stayed to talk with people and say goodbye to those who were headed home until the building was almost empty. Some of the young adults were going around giving their friends spice grinders, because of a fun sales pitch one of the group had given earlier in the Feast, resulting in much amusement and interest in the unique item early on.
After sunset, a large group of the brethren went to the park to enjoy pizza and fellowship together. We stayed and talked until it was quite late, then went our separate ways. I stayed up even later packing and preparing for the next day until I was too tired to think clearly and finally opted for some shuteye.
